A Beginners Guide to CBD: Everything You Need to Know

Unless you’ve been a die-hard fan of CBD, you probably have a million and one
questions about the topic. Good thing that our favorite part about being a CBD brand is getting to answer all of those questions; big or small! The way we see it is, the more questions we can clear up, the more people get to experience the incredible benefits of CBD.

That’s why we decided to throw together a quick beginner’s guide to CBD. We’ll answer the most common questions, throw in a few fun facts, and before you know it, you’ll be one step closer to giving it a try for yourself.

What is CBD?
First question, what is CBD? Most of us have a general idea of what it is, but not that much knowledge about where it comes from, how it’s made, or if it’s even good for us or not. We’ll explain it without getting too technical!

CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol, which is an active compound found in the cannabis plant. It’s often confused with THC, short for tetrahydrocannabinol, which is another compound found in the cannabis plant, but this is the one that gets you “high.”

A few characteristics that you should know about CBD are: it’s non-psychoactive, it’s most commonly used to help epilepsy patients, it derives from the flower of the cannabis plant, and it became wildly popular as a natural pain reliever.

What Is CBD Used For?
While research is still being conducted to find out what else CBD can treat, there has been enough research showing CBD’s effectiveness in improving sleep disorders, anxiety , PTSD, body pain, and inflammation.

How Does CBD Work?
CBD is thought to promote better health and alleviate pain based on how it interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system. This leads us to another question, “What is the endocannabinoid system?”

Understanding how CBD interacts with our body makes it much easier to understand why it might work for you. Essentially, our endocannabinoid system’s goal is to achieve homeostasis , a level of stability in basic functions that impact our mood, sleep, immune system, stress, metabolism, and so on.

Endocannabinoids, like CBD, bind to specific receptors in our body, which signals our nervous system to create stability. If you’ve ever been skeptical about how CBD can be so effective, now you understand how it works!

How Much CBD Should You Take?
If it’s your first time giving CBD a shot, it doesn’t hurt to go slow and increase the dosage over time. That being said, it also wouldn’t hurt you if you took more than your body needs since CBD has shown to be well tolerated , even in high amounts. However, always be mindful of what you put into or on your body and, more importantly, listen to what your body is telling you!

Weight, metabolism, and the actual CBD content all play a major role in how much you need. The best answer to this question is to play around with different dosages and allow your body to feel the difference. Depending on what you need CBD for, whether it’s anxiety, insomnia, muscle tension, or stress relief, your body will tell you when you’ve found the perfect dosage.
